Visual Arts
At Falcon Academy, the Visual Arts program is a dynamic space where creativity, self-expression, cultural appreciation, and critical thinking converge. Through both the elementary and middle school frameworks, learners explore art as a powerful form of communication that connects people, cultures, and ideas across time and place.
Grounded in the three-dimensional model of teaching and learning—concepts, skills, and content, our program nurtures learners as artists and thinkers who can create with intention, analyze with insight, and reflect with depth.
Visual Arts in Elementary School
Visual Arts is integrated into the transdisciplinary curriculum, where art-making and art exploration support broader learning themes. Learners engage with concepts such as expression, identity, perspective, and creativity through a wide range of media and techniques, including drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, clay, textiles, and digital tools.
Learners investigate art from various cultures and time periods, reflect on their own artistic choices, and experiment with different styles and materials. Skills such as fine motor coordination, composition, color theory, and spatial awareness are developed through hands-on, process-oriented activities. Art lessons are inquiry-driven, encouraging learners to ask: “Why do people create art?” and “How does art communicate ideas?”
Learners document their process, reflect on their decisions, and share their artworks in exhibitions and classroom galleries. Assessment focuses on both process and product, with formative tasks like sketchbook reflections and peer feedback, and summative pieces like curated portfolios or class displays that celebrate growth and individuality.
Visual Arts in Middle School
Visual Arts evolves into a more structured, inquiry-based discipline, where learners deepen their understanding of art theory, history, critique, and creation. The program emphasizes key concepts such as aesthetics, innovation, culture, narrative, symbolism, and transformation, encouraging learners to interpret and produce art in more complex and intentional ways.
Learners are exposed to a wide variety of artistic movements and global influences—studying the techniques of masters and the voices of contemporary artists from diverse backgrounds. They apply design thinking and studio skills to create original artworks in both 2D and 3D forms, including sculpture, digital illustration, photography, mixed media, and installation art.
Throughout the creative process, learners are expected to document, reflect, and critique their work using visual journals, artist statements, and class discussions. They refine skills in research, analysis, technique, planning, and creative risk-taking, culminating in meaningful and well-justified artistic expressions.
Assessment in middle school emphasizes both the journey and the final outcome. Formative assessments may include visual diaries, technique practice, process critiques, and small-scale experimental tasks. Summative assessments challenge learners to produce authentic, thematic works connected to personal, social, or global issues, supported by curated portfolios and thoughtful reflection.
Across all years, Visual Arts at Falcon Academy fosters learners’ ability to see the world through an artistic lens, express unique perspectives, and engage meaningfully with visual culture. The program develops not only technical skill but also empathy, confidence, and imagination, preparing learners to be creators and appreciators of art in an interconnected, visual world.
